Why not plan a winter wedding?

Have you considered a winter wedding?

With more venue and supplier availability which could equate to lower charges, why not explore this option?  Most weddings in Guernsey take place during from May to October on a Saturday, when the availability of your favourite venue will be limited. By choosing a date outside of the typical wedding season you are opening up your choices for all wedding suppliers.

1. Winter weather

Embrace the season, you know it won’t be warm enough for an outside ceremony, so why not enjoy the Autumn or Winter decorations and make this your theme?  The unpredictable weather is one less thing to stress about.  That said, who knows what options the venue has for a heated but covered outside ceremony.

If you do go for the outside option, do ensure your guests will be comfortable and warm by organising heaters and providing blankets.  You might want to start the ceremony earlier in the day than you would normally.  With the sun lower in the sky during the Winter, the day will be shorter, and this will impact the time for the photographs to be taken, especially if some of these will be outside.

2. Guest availability

Many of your family and friends will have commitments during the summer months, with either holidays or other weddings that might clash with yours.  By marrying off-season, they are more likely to be able to attend and prioritise your wedding.

In fact, when the excitement and festivities of Christmas wear off, you can all look forward to an event in the quieter months of January to March.

3. Travel and Accommodation

The better rates don’t stop with the venue and wedding suppliers.  Travelling to and from Guernsey for you and your guests may be advantageous too, for those who will need to fly, as off-season airfare offers and accommodation bookings may make the difference between whether those guests can attend or not.

However, if you do choose the Christmas or New Year period , then prices might actually be higher than a typical summer wedding, so be sure to encourage your guests to book early to secure the best rates.

4. Decor

Many venues will already be decorated during the festive season, which will save you having to arrange or pay for it.  Take advantage of the existing décor, whether it be Autumnal, Halloween or Christmas themed.  During February of course, the theme is highly likely to be a ‘Love’ theme around Valentine’s day - what could be more perfect?

5. Honeymoon

Couples who marry in the Summer often take a mini-moon immediately after their wedding, and postpone a longer honeymoon until the Winter when it’s a better time and price to visit a faraway, exotic location.  With a Winter wedding you can save money by reverting to one special trip and enjoy your dream honeymoon straight after the big day.

6. What’s not to love?

So, with less stress to secure your perfect venue and first choice wedding suppliers, potentially cheaper rates and less décor to budget for, you can accommodate more guests as the RSVPs come back positive.  More friends, more family, more fun and more memories.
