For those people who do not hold religious beliefs the sentiments expressed in a church ceremony are not meaningful. If one partner is religious it is often difficult for the other to feel a church ceremony is sincere for them if they do not share these beliefs and a civil ceremony feels more appropriate. However the laws governing civil weddings in Guernsey strictly control how the ceremony is structured and they must always be held within the defined framework leaving no opportunity for the occasion to be personalised in any way.

A Humanist wedding celebration allows you to make your day exactly what you would like it to be and takes place in addition to the short legal ceremony conducted by one of Her Majesty's Deputies Registrar. The sentiments expressed in the ceremony are universal and relate only to the feelings of love and commitment between the individuals involved so even those people who do believe in a supernatural force can find the ceremony has a special and deep meaning for them.

Whether your dream is for a traditional style wedding with all the trimmings and hundreds of guests, an intimate gathering in your home or an informal get together on the cliffs or beach the day is yours to create in your own style. This is a time to bring both your families together with your friends and you know what will feel right for you. From the opening music to the closing words the ceremony will reflect your personalities and beliefs.

You are free to write your own promises to each other and therefore these declarations will be some of the most meaningful words you will say to your partner.

Friends and family can take part in many ways - perhaps by reading a poem or singing. There are also many small gestures in which they can take part which we can discuss during the consultation meetings.

If you have married overseas and feel that you would like to share your commitment in front of friends and family not able to attend the ceremony why not hold an affirmation ceremony to share those important promises with everyone close to you.

You will find some more information on the frequently asked questions page but if you would like to find out more about having a Humanist Wedding Ceremony then please contact me and we will arrange a time to meet to discuss your ideas. There is no charge for this consultaton and no obligation - afterwards you can decide at any time if you wish me to lead the ceremony for you.

If you do decide that a Humanist ceremony would be right for you then a couple of months before the big day we will meet again and after this I will start to create your ceremony.

I will be available at any time by phone or e.mail to answer any queries you may have and we can meet again if needed. Shortly before the ceremony we would have a brief rehearsal.

Although many wedding celebrations are planned out well in advance you can choose at any time to create a Humanist celebration - if you are getting married in 2009 and feel that this would add to your day then please get in touch - even if I am not available I may be able to arrange for another celebrant from the BHA network to officiate for you.
