Welcomings for Older ChildrenCeremonies can be performed for older children. As they have already grown into their name this will be more about welcoming them into the family and an expression of love, rather than a formal naming. More information available soon or contact me if you want to find out more.......
Adoptions & Step-childrenIf you have adopted a child then a welcoming ceremony is a positive way to recognise the importance of the new person in your family. A ceremony to welcome your partner's children into your life and make commitments to them can be a meaningful time for all the family. A new baby in the family is a joyful and serious occasion, a time to celebrate the arrival of a new human being and for commitment to his or her welfare. A naming ceremony is an occasion when parents can state their love and commitment to their child in front of friends and family and also recognise special adults who will play a part in the childs life as they grow. The ceremony is similar to the more familiar christening but without any religious element. For many parents it is important that their children grow up free to make up their own minds about their beliefs. It is equally important though that the special occasion of a new life is marked in some way and commitment to the future wellbeing is declared in front of family and friends. Many parents choose to hold a naming or welcoming ceremony at the start of a celebration party in their home or at a special venue, so that all families and friends can be there and even take part to mark this happy event. Quite often the child's first birthday is an appropriate time to celebrate. Some parents take the opportunity when families are together at Christmas time to hold a naming ceremony amidst the tinsel and fairy lights. Grandparents and older brothers and sisters can be included and take part in the ceremony. Symbolic gestures such as a tree planting might be appropriate for you or perhaps you would like to create a book for all the guests to write their good wishes or advice for the future. We will be including more ideas for naming ceremonies - please check back again
