WhiteDove Funerals

Cremations

In Guernsey the crematorium offers a quiet and tranquil place for a Humanist ceremony.

Burials

Although most of the Island's parochial cemeteries are consecrated, they are all 'non-denominational', which means that anyone, whatever their beliefs, may be buried in them. Anyone wishing to have a non-religious burial ceremony in their parish of residence would need to seek the permission of the Rector in charge. Your funeral director will be able to advise and make any necessary arrangements on your behalf.

Memorials

In certain circumstances a funeral is not possible or the family wish this to be an occasion for family only.

Memorials to remember and celebrate a life can take place anywhere and at anytime. A funeral director would not be required and you can speak directly with the Humanist celebrant who will create a suitable and personal tribute to the deceased.

Scattering Ashes

If you would like to create a short ceremony when scattering the ashes of a loved one then please contact me to discuss your thoughts.

For individuals who have lived their lives without religion it can seem incongruous to hold a funeral which commends he spirit of the deceased into the care of a deity.

Although many people assume that when they die a religious ceremony must take place this has never been a legal requirement.

When non-believers die, their funerals do not have to be conducted according to religious rituals which would be inappropriate and, for their family and friends, feel hypocritical.

For a growing proportion of the population, a Humanist ceremony seems an appropriate and suitable way of marking life’s significant occasions – and death’s too.

A Humanist funeral celebrates the life of the person who has died. The celebrant will visit and consult the bereaved to create a full tribute to their loved one. This can often be hugely helpful for the grieving.

Whether a cremation or burial is the option, friends and family are encouraged to choose readings and music representing the deceased’s life, and to participate in whatever way suits them. Then, the celebrant will organise and conduct a specially tailored ceremony.

Humanist celebrants provide the family with a script of the funeral so they can refer back to it, or show it to people unable to attend.

If you wish to arrange for a non-religious funeral for a loved one in Guernsey or any of the other Channel Islands then please ask your Funeral Director to contact me.

If you would like to discuss the idea of a Humanist Funeral then please contact me to arrange a convenient time to meet.
